15th Annual Heritage Concert Series

Join The King Arts Complex for the 15th Annual Heritage Concert Series.  It has become the summer community event reminiscent of the iconic “Coming Home Festival” on Mount Vernon Avenue.  This is truly the place to be every Thursday evening in July and August.  Performances from local, regional, and national musical artists will keep it hot with Jazz, Classical R & B, Inspirational and Blues!  Bring a blanket or lawn chair, and relax in the beautiful, breezy ambiance of Mayme Moore Park.  A food court and reserved tables on the Patio are available.

The Martin Luther King Jr. Performing and Cultural Arts Complex will host its 26th Anniversary Gala Celebration, on Saturday, May 18, 2013 at the King Arts Complex, 867 Mt. Vernon Avenue, Columbus Ohio. The theme of the evening is Celebrating Scarlet & Gray. “The Ohio State University is an integral part of our community and we are honored to celebrate Ohio State and the Heisman Trophy Winners”, said Executive Director Demetries Neely. 

The evening will begin with an exclusive VIP reception from 7:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. in the Grand Ballroom. Honorees will include all living Ohio State Heisman Trophy winners: Howard “Hopalong” Cassady, Archie Griffin, Eddie George and Troy Smith. Following the VIP reception, gala attendees will experience casino-style gaming, dancing and a variety of Central Ohio’s premiere restaurants and caterers. New this year is a Premier Lounge featuring complimentary adult beverages, soft seating, jazz music, reserved seating for the featured act, and more!  The featured act for the evening will be a live performance from national R&B recording artists Mint Condition performing songs such as “Pretty Brown Eyes” and “U Send Me Swingin”, among others.

“The King Arts Complex is a community gem and we are honored to co-chair this year’s Gala. We invite corporate partners, patrons of the arts and the community to join us for an evening of celebration,” explained 2013 Gala co-chairs Robert E. Lee III and Dawn Tyler Lee.

Tickets for the 26th Anniversary Gala Celebration are on sale now! VIP tickets and tickets to the Premiere Lounge are $200 per person. There is a limited amount of VIP tickets and Premier Lounge tickets. General admission gala tickets are $100 per person.

Jazz on the Avenue takes a voyage back to the 1970′s with the Starship Orchestra. The iconic 1976 ballad “You are my Starship” sets the mood for this evening of smooth jazz and R&B. Norman Connors is an American jazz drummer, composer, arranger, and producer who has led some influential jazz and R&B groups.

Norman Connors will be accompianed by world renowned jazz trumpeter Tom Browne. He is known for the hit 1980 song “Funkin’ for Jamaica”. Join us for this magical “Jazz on the Avenue” at the Pythian Theater.
