SUMMARY:Six String Concerts present Susan Werner with Pat Byrne
DESCRIPTION:Positivity and hopefulness\, encapsulated in well-crafted songs. \nOver the course of her twenty-five-year career\, Susan Werner has earned a reputation as “one of the most innovative songwriters working today” (Chicago Tribune). With formidable chops on guitar (she began playing at age 5) and piano (she was a guest on Marian McPartland’s Piano Jazz)\, along with a graduate degree in voice performance\, her shows are a one-woman master class in musicianship. Although best known as an acoustic songwriter that came up through coffeehouses and folk festivals\, the Chicago-based artist has written songs in the style of Gershwin and Cole Porter (I Can’t Be New\, 2004)\, gospel music (The Gospel Truth\, 2007)\, traditional Cuban “son” (An American In Havana\, 2016)\, and New Orleans junk piano (NOLA\, 2019). In 2014 she composed the music and lyrics for the musical theater show Bull Durham\, A New Musical (MGM). Her songs have been recorded by Tom Jones\, Michael Feinstein\, and Shemekia Copeland\, and her latest recording of originals\, Halfway to Houston\, took flight in March 2024. \nsusanwerner.com \nPat Byrne migrated from Ireland to Austin\, Texas\, in 2017. Since then\, he has melded two musical cultures known for introspective lyricism and raw\, from-the-heart emotion—with spectacular results. In 2019\, Pat had breakout performances at the 30A Festival\, SXSW\, Kerrville Folk Festival\, and the Americana Festival. His 2021 release\, Into the Light\, was named a top 10 album of the year by the Austin American Statesman. Pat takes the listener on an emotional journey with lyrics both touching and agonizing—heightened by his dynamic vocal style. \npatbyrne-music.com

SUMMARY:An Evening with David Francey
DESCRIPTION:Honest stories of real people and places. \nDavid Francey is a Scottish-born Canadian carpenter-turned-songwriter\, who has become known as “one of Canada’s most revered folk poets and singers” (Toronto Star). In concert David is a singer and a storyteller. His wry humor and astute observations combined with his openhearted singing style have earned him a loyal following. For decades\, he worked across Canada in rail yards\, construction sites\, and in the Yukon bush\, all the while writing poetry\, setting it to melodies in his head\, and singing it to himself as he worked. When he was in his 40s\, his wife\, artist Beth Girdler\, encouraged him to share his songs and sing in public. The reaction was instant. His first album Torn Screen Door (1999) was a hit in Canada. Since then\, David has released thirteen albums\, won four Juno Awards\, and has had his songs covered by artists such as The Del McCoury Band\, The Rankin Family\, James Keelaghan\, and Tracy Grammer. His 2023 album\, The Breath Between\, is a poignant yet beautiful reminder of the passage of time.

The words he fosters allow us to make sense of the world\, what is at stake here\, and our place in it. Scott comes from a musical family with a father who had him smitten with guitars by the age of four. He toured with Robert Plant and the Zac Brown Band and was named “songwriter of the year” for both ASCAP and NSAI. SUMMARY:Mary Gauthier with Special Guest Jaimee Harris
DESCRIPTION:One of the best songwriters of her generation.\n \n\n\n\nGrammy-nominated American folk singer-songwriter and author Mary Gauthier crafts instantly memorable songs. She has never shied away from difficult self-exploration and has demonstrated an “ability to transform her own trauma into a purposeful and communal narrative” (NPR). Gauthier’s songs have been recorded by dozens of artists and have appeared in film and television. Her 2018 album\, Rifles & Rosary Beads\, co-written with military veterans and their families\, has been hailed as a landmark achievement. In 2021 she released the book\, Saved by a Song\, The Art and Healing Power of Songwriting. Her 2022 album\, Dark Enough to See the Stars\, returns Gauthier to the confessional mode of songwriting on her 2005 release\, “Mercy Now.” Brandi Carlile has said\, “Mary’s songwriting speaks to the tender aspects of our humanness. We need her voice in times like these more than we ever have.”\n\n\n\nmarygauthier.com \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“With songwriting as powerful as hers\, there’s no need to go looking for qualifiers. She’s a unique\, intrinsically valuable musical voice.”\n\n\n—Los Angeles Times\n\n\n\n\n\nHer talent and command of her craft is undeniable.\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJaimee Harris built a devoted critical and popular following in Austin\, Texas\, as she fronted a slate of seasoned musicians. In May 2018\, Harris left her job to pursue music full time. By August\, she was opening shows all over the world for Mary Gauthier. On the heels of her debut album Red Rescue\, hailed by many as one of the top Americana albums of 2018\, Harris did not disappoint with the release of The Congress House Sessions\, a thoughtful\, intimate EP with stripped-down recordings of some of her most requested songs.\n\n\n\njaimeeharris.com \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“The Next Queen of Americana-Folk”\n\n\n—NPR
